Lasting treasure or white elephant?  

     New baby's entry into our world is a cherished time, and shopping for just the right baby gift can be overwhelming.  Will the gift be a lasting treasure, or will it soon be forgotten, perhaps even re-gifted? 

     With over nine years of personal shopping experience, we have come up with our top five secrets on how to buy the perfect unique baby gift.   Our secrets are simple and ooze thoughtfulness.   

1. Lifestyle 
   • New Moms love unique baby clothes that reflect their own sense of style . . . trendy hip or classic sophistication; bold colors or subdued pastels. 
   • Is Mom or Dad a surfer, rocker, intellectual, artist or environmentalist?  Shop for designer baby clothes that underscore the parent's personality. 
2. Practicality
   • Consider baby's age and season with buying unique baby clothes.  It is best to buy one or two sizes ahead and always correlate the size with the season.  They will wear it much longer, before it is lovingly packed away in baby's keepsake box.
   • Clothes should be simple in design and construction, slipping easily over baby's head and body.  Parents will thank you, as they change their wiggling bundle of joy for the umpteen time! 
3.  Comfort
   • Buy breathable fabrics such as cotton & bamboo.  Dress baby in thin layers during warmer seasons and thicker layers during the colder seasons. 
   • Make sure the clothing is loose enough for baby's movement.  
4. Uniqueness
   • Choose a quality name brand.  Each season, designers re-invent one of a kind prints and use color in different ways.  Although the style may be classic, it has a new twist which defines it's uniqueness.  You won't find these at your local super chain stores! 
   • Handcrafted items from local crafters and small companies are wonderfully unique! 
5.  Quality
   • Buy heirloom quality!  It will withstand frequent washings, keep it's shape, and won't stain as readily.
   • Buy sweat shop free, fair trade gifts, preferably assembled in the USA, Canada, or Europe.  Usually the fabric will be imported.  Pima cottons from Egypt, Peru, and India are wonderful!  We also recommend organic cottons from the US, Europe and Australia.
